Howdy!
So boxing seems to be making a comeback here in Jamaica and I’m loving it. My dad used to always let us sit with him in the T.V. room and watch boxing when growing up. Although I didn’t know what was happening on the screen my sisters and I knew we were chilling with daddy, doing something grown up and most importantly any minute now he’d give us a sip of his Heineken (Don’t judge). Despite all this I had never seen a live boxing match (bar brawls do not count). So when I saw tweets alluding to a boxing match going across my timeline, I decided to investigate. It turns out Hands Of Gold was having a boxing series. When I looked at the prices i was like “Damn pre-pay day brokeness will NOT allow this luxury” , but as luck would have it a friend got comps and asked if I wanted to forward.
The place was PACKED and everyone was there to support Jamaica. I cannot lie, I went not expecting much BUT the show was good, the set up was excellent and the Jamaican boxers KICKED ass. The crowd was a joy, NOTHING beats commentary in the stands at ANY Jamaican sports event. Peep the videos below of Sakima Mullings (JA) vs Winston Pompey(GUY) and also of my favourite match of the night Nicholas” the axe man” Walters(JA) vs. Argel Salinas (MEX) when he got knocked out in the second round I was like wow! Take a peep below:
2nd round Knockout at the 9:55 mark
5th Round Knockout at 1:45 mark
Because this is a series the next Fight Night is scheduled for July 14th,2011 at Pier 1 in Montego Bay and then Jake’s in treasure beach, St. Elizabeth. This series is supposed to go all the way into November. For more info go to the site Hands of Gold Jamaica or for updates just follow them on twitter @HandsofGold_JA

I love that this is happening in JA. As I tweeted to you earlier my Grandpa used to watch “Thursday Night At the Fights” and I recall the hoopla in our household for all the Mike Tyson fights. What a quiet in the house with that 1st round knock outs. Plus, my Dad often mentions that Jamaica used to have a solid boxing program…I hope we can rebuild it and maybe even see our boxers on the world stage like at the Olympics. Thanks for sharing this.
What kinda fraud reporting you got going on here Mamachel! Video # 1 has a TKO waaaay past the 9:55 mark (more like 10:50)… Second video had a KO at least (at the 2:01 mark in the video). Nit-picky I know
I used to like boxing as well from growing up and watching with my parents, but ever since Tyson lost to Buster Douglas, the sport has been in a degenerating spiral (with very few bright spots) to it current mediocrity.
Now MMA (mixed martial arts) is where I get my violent entertainment!
i am loooving some adult entertainment that’s something other than posing-required clubbing or yet another all-inclusive…let’s get reeaadddyy to ruuuummmmbbbblllleeee!
